Install the last version of aMsn on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron
Due to a update of the MSN protocol, it is not possible to use Hardy Heron default aMsn to connect to this instant messaging network. In order to correct this problem, i've backported a recent version of aMsn. This article help you to install it.
Fast and obfuscated
The following command lines will install aMsn. First, initialize your sudo environment:
sudo echo
And run the following command lines:
echo "# Lone Wolf aMsn packages for Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron
deb http://falcon.landure.fr hardy amsn
deb-src http://falcon.landure.fr hardy amsn" \
| sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hardy-landure-amsn.list
wget http://falcon.landure.fr/falcon.landure.fr.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -y install amsn
You can now use aMsn to connect to your instant messaging network.
Installation
The first step is to add the repository to the apt configuration:
echo "# Lone Wolf aMsn packages for Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron
deb http://falcon.landure.fr hardy amsn
deb-src http://falcon.landure.fr hardy amsn" \
| sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hardy-landure-amsn.list
Then we download the GPG key signing this repository:
wget http://falcon.landure.fr/falcon.landure.fr.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -
Now, we update the list of available packages:
sudo apt-get update
Once this done, click here to install aMsn.
Thanks
- Thanks to aMsn developers.
is it still there?
Couldn't find package amsn
yeah it is there
Thanks, but......
Thanks for the post, however, I have followed the instructions and amsn appears to be installed on my machine but whenever I try and log in the aMsn box just disappears and there's no evidence of it running.
Does anyone know or has experienced this or can point me in the right direction.
Many thanks.
Jim
have you tried to run amsn from command line ?
You can also try to delete your aMsn settings folder to solve the problem:
rm -r ~/.aMsn
(i think it is the right command, but no garanty).
Good luck

article out of date
this article is completly out of date. Please ignore it. Prefer the use of "Software -> Ubuntu software center" (lousy translation from french, it's the last entry from software menu in ubuntu lucid lynx).
good luck
