Opera on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn

Opera is a commercial alternative to Mozilla Firefox (and to other web browsers of GNU / Linux world). This article explain how to install it on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.

Fast and obfuscated

If your are on the run, initialize your sudo environment :

sudo echo

Then copy/paste the following command lines in your terminal :

sudo sh -c 'echo "# channel for the feisty commercial channel
#
#:description:This channel contains the commercial software for feisty
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu feisty-commercial main"  \
      > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/feisty-commercial.list'
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -y install opera

Installation

At first, you need to activate Ubuntu Feisty commercial repository :

sudo sh -c 'echo "# channel for the feisty commercial channel
#
#:description:This channel contains the commercial software for feisty
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu feisty-commercial main"  \
      > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/feisty-commercial.list'

Then, update the list of available packages :

sudo apt-get update

You can now install Opera:

sudo apt-get install opera

Translate Opera

By default, Opera's menus language is english. You can download other languages from this page: Opera's language files.
