Install OpenOffice.org 3 on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex

OpenOffice.org (ou OOo pour les intimes) est une suite bureautique libre très complète. La version 3 apporte son lot de nouveautés, dont la possibilité de modifier les fichiers PDF. Cette suite bureautique est devenue un incontournable du monde libre, comme peut l'être Mozilla Firefox, ou The Gimp. Cet article vous facilite son installation sur Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex.

If you are on the run, the following command lines summaries this article. First initialize your sudo environment:

sudo echo

And install OpenOffice.org 3 :

echo "# OpenOffice.org 3 repository
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main" \
| sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/intrepid-openoffice-main.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get --force-yes -y install openoffice.org-gtk ttf-opensymbol \
openoffice.org-emailmerge
sudo apt-get --force-yes -y upgrade

You have now installed the version 3 of OpenOffice.org.

Installing

First, add the OpenOffice.org repository to your apt configuration:

echo "# OpenOffice.org 3 repository
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main" \
| sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/intrepid-openoffice-main.list

You now need to update the list of available packages:

sudo apt-get update

And install OpenOffice.org 3 :

sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-gtk ttf-opensymbol \
openoffice.org-emailmerge

Note: If you are using Kubuntu, use this command line:

sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-kde ttf-opensymbol \
openoffice.org-emailmerge

Now, upgrade the others OpenOffice.org 3 packages:

sudo apt-get upgrade

You can now run OpenOffice.org 3.
